I was doing a bit of clean up and came across a drawing pad that I hadn’t seen since 2008. These are some Blooks (Loomis’ term) from Andrew Loomis‘ 1939 book Fun With A Pencil. The book was out of print for ages and it used to be that the only way you could get a copy of it was to find a bootleg pdf version online. Loomis was an extremely successful illustrator and instructor in the first half of the twentieth century. His style ranged from the cartoony (like above) to the realistic.

I just read through Loomis’ Figure Drawing for All it’s Worth, but found it to be a bit over my head. So I’m working through Fun With a Pencil first. :) I really enjoy his conversational writing style, and encouraging tone.
Your plates are pretty darn inspiring. It’s crazy how long those things take.
I wanted to THANK YOU SO MUCH for linking to the Figure & Gesture Drawing website! It’s awesome. :D I’m pretty sure I’ll be trying that out in the near future.
